William P. Schrader, Jr., better known as Bill, grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona during his early years and enjoyed the experience of working on his family’s dairy farm. The dairy was located on the now busy corner of Indian School and Hayden Roads. Bill and his brothers had the privilege of working with and learning from their grandfather and father at the dairy.
In 1970 Bill graduated from Scottsdale High School. Following his high school years, Bill attended Mesa Community College for two years and then transferred to Tucson to attend The University of Arizona where he focused his studies on agriculture and business management. Bill knew these would be valuable fields of study when he returned to work in the family business.
After his time at college, Bill and his brothers applied their education by starting Schrader Brothers Farms, Inc. The farm at that time consisted of 400 acres in Gilbert where they grew crops such as cotton, alfalfa, and corn. Bill and his family also custom harvested cotton and hay crops for neighboring families. In 1986, the farm moved to where it is located today in Chandler, Arizona. Now operating in Chandler, the business has grown into more than a farming operation.
In addition to farming, Bill has also been involved in residential, commercial, and vacation rental real estate companies and is an owner in a self-storage facility. Bill became a council member at Salt River Project in 1980 and continues on today honoring his family’s legacy of service at SRP since the 1940’s. Working as an elected official for SRP has been one of the great honors of his life.
Bill has a daughter (Jennifer) and a son (Billy) and has enjoyed living in Chandler for almost 40 years. Bill is a proud supporter of many community outreach programs, to include: Folds of Honor, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Wounded Warrior Project, Valley of the Sun United Way, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and the Arizona Humane Society.
